What Happens If a Motorhome Cambelt Fails?

The cambelt is one of those “out of sight, out of mind” components, until something goes wrong. Unfortunately, a failed cambelt can cause some of the most serious and expensive engine damage possible. Understanding how a cambelt works, the warning signs of failure, and when to replace it could save you thousands in repair costs and prevent your holiday plans from coming to a sudden stop. What Does a Cambelt Do? A cambelt (also known as a timing belt) keeps your engine’s camshaft and crankshaft perfectly synchronised. This ensures the engine valves open and close at exactly the right moment […]

If your motorhome has been sitting on the driveway or stored away for months, you may be wondering whether it still needs an annual service. The short answer is yes, regular servicing is essential even when your motorhome isn’t being driven regularly. Many owners assume that low mileage means low maintenance, but motorhomes can actually develop problems faster when left unused. We had air bags fitted to our motorhome and they make a big difference in the way it handles on the motorway and also on country roads its quieter and less roll. Having the airbags on the leaf spring also helps if we need to lift the rear of motorhome for better ground clearance at some sites.

For 4 years I have had my Autotrail Mohawk looked after by “Bristol Caravans part of ACORNCO Ltd”, just north of Bristol.I have only praise for them – they are brilliant. They have done the scheduled servicing, MOT, several habitation surveys and repairs, which required specific parts ordered from Autotrail – and tricky technical dashboard electrical and gas refrigerator faults. They have also done for me a full outside clean, which is one of their services, and they made aka The Beast look absolutely fabulous after it was green from wintering under trees. And they are always ready to give […]

Does a Motorhome Levelling System Use the Habitation Battery?

A common question among motorhome owners is whether an automatic levelling system runs from the habitation battery. In most cases, the answer is no, they are usually powered by the engine battery via a mega fuse (fuse size depends on the system being installed). This is because hydraulic pumps and electric levelling motors require a high current draw when operating. The engine battery is designed to handle these powerful bursts of energy, while the habitation battery is intended for lower-power leisure equipment such as lighting, water pumps and appliances. Motorhome levelling systems charge from the engine battery unless there has […]
