FAQs
Brake fluid loses its effectiveness over time as it is hygroscopic which means it absorbs water. As the water content of the fluid increases, water in the system can “boil” under the high temperatures generated when braking. Boiling produces small bubbles of steam, which cause the brakes to become spongy, because steam (a gas) can be compressed. Which means the pressure in the system reduces, the loss of pressure reduces braking effectiveness and brakes can become dangerous.
- Every 2 years.
- Water content in brake fluid should be checked annually, we include this in an engine chassis service.
- Brake fluid replacement is not related to mileage, as water is constantly being absorbed by your brake fluid.
