BR-Systems Bike Lift Explained

Choosing the correct model comes down to the physical setup of your motorhome. Systems like the BR-Systems Bike Lift are designed in multiple versions—such as Standard, Short, Rail, and Short Rail—to accommodate different vehicle heights and mounting positions. Measuring the distance from the ground to your mounting points is usually the first step.

It’s also important to consider whether your vehicle already has mounting rails or a bike rack system in place. Some models are designed to integrate directly with existing rails, while others require a fresh installation. Taking accurate measurements and checking compatibility early avoids costly mistakes later.

Weight capacity is a key concern, especially as e-bikes become more popular. The system is designed to handle heavier loads than traditional racks, typically supporting up to 60 kg in total. This makes it suitable for two e-bikes or a mix of lighter bicycles.

However, it’s not just about total weight—it’s also about distribution. Properly balancing the load across the platform ensures smoother lifting and better stability during travel. Exceeding the recommended limit or uneven loading can affect both performance and safety.

One of the biggest advantages of a powered bike lift is that it removes the need for heavy lifting. Instead of hoisting bikes onto a high-mounted rack, the platform lowers close to ground level, allowing you to roll or gently place the bikes into position.

This is particularly beneficial for heavier e-bikes or for users who want to avoid strain or injury. It also makes loading quicker and more convenient, especially when travelling frequently or stopping at multiple locations.

Power reliability is a common concern when adding any electric accessory to a motorhome. To address this, the bike lift includes a manual override system—typically a hand crank—that allows you to raise or lower the platform if the battery fails or power is unavailable.

This backup feature ensures you’re never stuck with bikes locked in place. While manual operation requires more effort, it provides peace of mind and ensures the system remains usable in all situations, including emergencies.

Many motorhome owners already have a bike rack installed and want to upgrade without starting from scratch. Some versions of the bike lift are specifically designed to mount onto existing rail systems, making installation simpler and more cost-effective.

That said, compatibility isn’t universal. The condition, spacing, and type of your current rails all play a role in determining whether they can be reused. In some cases, replacing or modifying the setup may still be the best option for safety and performance.

Safety on the road is a top priority, especially when carrying valuable bikes on the rear of a motorhome. The lift is equipped with mechanical locking systems that secure the platform in place once raised, preventing any unwanted movement while driving.

In addition to locking mechanisms, proper installation and loading are critical. Ensuring the bikes are firmly fastened and the weight is evenly distributed helps maintain stability at higher speeds and over uneven terrain, giving you confidence during long journeys.
