Reliable repairs, ready for every adventure

Having trouble with your levelling system? We can get it fixed for your next trip?

If your system isn’t operating smoothly, showing warning lights, or your legs aren’t retracting as they should, it’s best to get it checked sooner rather than later. A professional inspection can quickly identify electrical or hydraulic faults, prevent further damage, and ensure your motorhome is safe and ready to travel. If you’re experiencing any issues, our team is here to diagnose, repair and get you level again with confidence.

Levelling System Repairs Explained

The most common cause of levelling system faults is low battery voltage. These systems draw a significant amount of power and if your engine battery is weak or not fully charged, the system may fail to operate or stop mid-cycle. Blown fuses, corroded connections, or control panel errors can also prevent proper operation.

Hydraulic systems can also develop issues such as low fluid levels, air in the system, or failing pumps and solenoids. A proper diagnostic check is important to identify whether the problem is electrical, hydraulic, or calibration-related before carrying out repairs.

If your legs won’t retract, the issue may be hydraulic — such as low fluid levels, a leaking seal, or a faulty solenoid valve preventing pressure from releasing correctly. In electric systems, it could be a motor fault or wiring issue interrupting the retraction signal.

Mechanical causes should also be considered. Dirt, debris or slight bending of a leg can prevent smooth movement. This issue should be addressed immediately, as attempting to drive with partially deployed legs can cause serious damage to both the system and your motorhome.

Levelling systems rely on sensors to detect vehicle position, and over time those sensors can drift slightly out of alignment. This is especially common after suspension upgrades, tyre changes, or significant weight adjustments inside the vehicle.

If the system finishes operating but the vehicle still feels uneven, recalibration can usually resolve the issue. This process resets the system’s reference point and ensures accurate levelling moving forward.

Before moving your motorhome, you must ensure all levelling legs are fully retracted and locked into position. Even partial deployment can result in severe structural damage if the vehicle is driven.

If warning lights or fault codes are present, it’s advisable to have the system checked before travelling. While some minor electrical warnings may not prevent movement, ignoring them could lead to bigger problems later.

An annual service helps identify early signs of wear such as hydraulic leaks, weakened seals, loose wiring, or fluid contamination. Catching these issues early can prevent costly repairs and unexpected failures while touring.

Routine servicing also ensures moving components are operating smoothly and safely. Just like suspension or braking systems, levelling systems benefit from regular professional inspection.

In many cases, issues are isolated to a specific part such as a pump, control panel, sensor, ram, or solenoid. Replacing the faulty component is often far more cost-effective than installing a completely new system.

Full replacement is typically only necessary if the system is severely damaged, outdated beyond support, or has experienced extensive hydraulic failure. A professional assessment will determine the most practical and economical solution.

“We arrived at Llanfyllin, and it was raining so hard it was difficult to find our plot. Once parked up, it took just 90 seconds as we let our automatic levelling system get us level. Thank you, Bristol Caravans, for fitting our amazing levelling system.”
